ABOUT ESTANCIA RINCON DEL SOCORRO LOCATION - in their own words:
Natural Values - A natural paradise unique in the world
Learn more about CLT Conservation Land Trust and Tompkins Conservation
Within the 74,130 acres of the Rincón del Socorro reserve, several ecosystems can be observed: vast temporarily flooded grasslands known as malezales, beautiful Caranday Palm groves, subtropical grasslands, Espinal woodlands, and small gallery forest. Finally, Socorro offers an excellent window to the vast wetlands that constitute the heart of the “Esteros” de Iberá.
Such a variety of well-preserved environments offers a unique opportunity for wildlife observation, made readily accessible thanks to years of protection. For birdwatchers, Socorro represents an excellent opportunity to watch rare species such as the strange-tailed tyrant, the yellow cardinal, the crowned eagle, the jabiru—America’s largest stork, and a variety of grassland, forest, and wetland birds, reaching up to 350 identified species for the area.
With regard to mammals, Socorro stands out within the CLT reserves as having advanced in wildlife reintroduction, harboring restored populations of the anteater, pampas deer, tapir, and collared peccary. In fact, it is the only place in Argentina where all four of these mammals can be observed nowadays. In addition, the capybara, marsh deer, brocket deer, howler monkey, fox, and viscacha are abundant in Socorro, where it is even possible to observe the rare maned wolf and the river otter.
All of the above makes Socorro a unique natural paradise in South America for its combination of landscapes, wildlife, and vegetation, all coming as result of an ecological restoration process initiated in 2002
