Depart your USA gateway city on evening flight.

Day 2 - Saturday – Arrive Fortaleza and connect to San Luis

Meeting upon arrival Fortaleza and transfer to the Gran Marquise Hotel for a comfortable layover in Fortaleza. Enjoy a visit to the highlights of Fortaleza including the preserved old part of town, which is a guardian of the best of Fortaleza’s past. You’ll enjoy stops at the old light-house in Mucuripe, the Our Lady of Assumption Fortress, the Historical and Anthropological Museum, the Central Square, the former Public Prison building, which has been renovated into an up-to-date tourist center, the Statue of Iracema, and the Dragon Center of Art and Culture. The tour would not be complete without a quick stop at Praia do Futuro (Beach of the Future) and the famous artisans fair at Meireles Beach.

            In the late afternoon return transfer to the airport for your short flight to Sao Luis.

Meeting upon arrival Sao Luis and transfer to Hotel Luzeiros for overnight. (B)

Day 3 - Sunday – Sao Luis – Barreirinhas – Atins

As they say, getting there is part of the fun.  Begin with an overland transfer from Sao Luis to Barreirinhas, the gatteway to Lencois Maranhenses National Park, a drive of around 3 hours. Enjoy lunch before continuing your journey to the small village of Atins riding a 4x4 quadricycle to the village of Caburé passing by the fishing village of Vassouras and driving through the sand dunes and lagoons of the small Lencois Maranhenses park. From Caburé to Atins it will be a short boat transfer to the beach at Atinas and then a short transfer from the beach through the small village of Atins to your hotel for two night stay at La Ferme de George. Day 4 – Monday - Atins

Today you will spend the day exploring the sand dunes and lagoons of Lencois Maranhenses National Park. (B)

Day 5 – Tuesday - Atins – Parnaiba Delta – Barra Grande 

This morning you will meet a local fisherman to go out on his local boat to try fishing some typical fishes of the region. After the fishing experience you will follow to a simple local bar owned by the fisherman's family and where the fish that you caught will be cooked. After lunch you will be transferred in a 4x4 to the Tutoia docks where you will embark on a speed boat for a tour of the Parnaíba Delta. During this tour you will be able to see the spectacle of more than hundreds of red Ibis arriving by sunset to sleep in a small single island. The boat tour will end on the Porto dos Tatus docks from where we will follow by car to Barra Grande for a three night stay at the Pousada BGK. (B-L)

Day 6 - Wednesday – Barra Grande

Day at leisure to enjoy the beach of Barra Grande or arrange optional activities including learning kite surfing. (B)

Day 7 - Thursday – Barra Grande

Morning at leisure, In the afternoon your local guide will take you in small canoes to the preservation area of the Sea Horse where you will be able to learn about this fascinating species. During the tour you will also have the opportunity to see a local oyster farm and according to the tide do relaxing flotation on the calm waters of the river. The transfers to/from the hotel to the river will be done in a local horse carriage. (B)

Day 8 - Friday – Barra Grande to Jericoacoara

Early this morning our host will meet you at the hotel lobby for your transfer to Jericoacoara. On the way we will have time to visit Tatajuba, a village that was covered by the action of the dunes and rebuilt by fishermen on the other side of the river under the name of New Tatajuba and for many people it represents what Jericoacoara was 20 years ago. The wind is the great artist of this paradise giving new contours to the landscape at every moment where the contemplation of nature is the greatest pleasure. We will also have time to visit another big attraction of the region, the “Duna do Funil”. This is one of the highest sand dune of the area (around 60 meters high) and you may try your skills going down on a sand board or just try what the locals call “skibunda” (sliding down sitting on a hard piece of paper). You will spend the next 4 nights at the lovely Casana on Prea Beach, just a short 25 minutes from Jericoacoara. (B)

Day 9 - Saturday – Prea Beach

Day at leisure to relax on the beach, or optional activities in the area such as Kite Surfing beginners course where you will learn, using a trainer kite, how to set up your gear, about the wind direction, what is a safety area, safety systems, how to launch and land your kite, and kite control (power and neutral zone).  (B)

Day 10 - Sunday – Prea Beach

This morning our host will meet you at your hotel lobby for a short buggy tour ride to the starting point to a 30 minutes hike to the Pedra Furada, an arc of a huge stone carved by the action of waves and weather. The hole in the center of the arc perfectly fit the sun during some times of the year at the sunset time. As this walk is normally done on the low tide it is possible to stop along the way to refresh in some natural pools. After the Pedra Furada hiking we will follow our buggy to the Blue Lagoon which is characterized by beautiful blue green fresh water with white sand and banks of wood in water to serve as a springboard. Not far from the Blue Lagoon we will also visit the Paradise Lagoon. We will have time for an optional lunch in one of the lagoons where a few options of bars and restaurants are situated on the shore of the lagoons with classic Brazilian scenes of hammocks and tables in the shallow parts of the water. Day 11 - Monday – Prea Beach

Enjoy one last day of optional activities and explorations.  (B)

Day 12 - Tuesday – Prea Beach – Jericoacoara – Sao Paulo and continue to USA

At the appropriate time your local hotel will transfer you from Prea Beach to the small airport at Jericoacoara for your departure flight. (B)
