Lima also offers a wide variety of museums. Here are a few of the most popular:

• National Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology - Plaza Bolivar in Pueblo Libre Tu-Sa 0900-1800
  Extremely interesting with excellent collection of textiles and pottery from the main ancient cultures of Peru
• Larco Herrera Museum - Avenue Bolivar 1515 in Puerto Libre Mo-Sa 0900-1800 & Sun 0900-130
  Extensive pre-Columbian pottery, gold and silver objects. Housed in a separate area is an erotica section
• National Museum - Javier Prado Este 2465 Tu-Fr 0900-1700 & Sa/Su 1000-1700
  Located in the huge Banco de la Nacion building. Museum for the exhibition and study of the art & history of the aboriginal races of Peru. One of the best museums in the city.
• Museum of Art - 9 de Diciembre 125 Tu-Su 1000-1700
  In the Palacio de la Exposicion, built in 1868 in Parque de la Exposicion. Extensive collection of Peruvian art from the Conquest to the present
• Museum of Italian Art - Paseo de la Republica, 2nd block Mo-Fr 0900-1630
  Wonderful neo-classical building with fine mosaics given by the Italian colony to Peru on the centenary of its independence. Good selection of Italian and European paintings from the 20th century
• Polli Museum - Lord Cochrane 466 Miraflores
  A private collection of mostly the Colonial period with lots of silver from the small churches, and paintings and furniture from old colonial mansions from around Peru, some gold pieces from Sipan and pottery from Mochica. Scheduled visits are at 4pm and take two hours. Usually Mr Polli himself or his son show the museum. Tour is given in Spanish and appointment is required so this should be arranged in advance with an English-speaking guide to accompany you. Private visits can be arranged from 10am-4pm.
• Gold Museum - Av de Molina 1110 Open daily 1200-1900
  Private collection of Miguel Mujica Gallo of gold, silver, bronze, ceramics, weavings, mummies. Although it has been shown that many of the Inca pieces in this museum are reproductions, many still visit this well-known museum. Pieces that are reproduced are now labeled as such. The museum does have a good arms collection with exhibition from Spanish colonial times.
