The Olsen Family
In the early 1970s, Helge Olsen from Denmark visited Hacienda La Danesa, and immediately fell in love with the location. Helge purchased one of Ecuador’s biggest cacao farms, formerly owned by a Swedish enterprise. For more than three decades the hacienda has been home to the Olsen Peet family and used as a family retreat. Niels opened its doors to share his tropical paradise to a select number of guests looking to change pace and experience the Ecuadorian countryside. All this while creating a positive impact on local communities.

Hacienda La Danesa is a 1200-acre working hacienda, on which cacao and teak are grown and small batch tree-to-bar chocolate and cheese is produced. It is perfect for travelers seeking to slow down and let nature set the tempo. It accommodates up to 16 guests in 6 beautifully designed cottages. The countryside setting allows guests to explore the property on horseback, float down the lazy rivers, or indulge in hobby-farmer workshops. Explore nearby excursions such as the cloud-forest and waterfalls, horse ride among the buffaloes or visit the neighboring banana plantation on route back to the farmhouse, richly inspired with Ecuadorian and Scandinavian designs.

Location
Hacienda La Danesa is conveniently located 67 kilometers, or just over an hour’s drive, from Guayaquil International Airport (GYE). Guests may arrive at the hacienda by car or helicopter from anywhere in mainland Ecuador.

• Internet:  Wi-Fi internet access is complimentary, not password protected and available throughout the social areas and rooms on the farm.

• Restaurant, Honor Bar and Bar:  Serving the freshness of locally harvested and sourced ingredients to your plate. Our dishes are crafted to highlight an authentic Ecuadorian gastronomic experience.

• Morning Coffee and Tea:  We grind and brew our favorite coffee sourced from small local farmers, and deliver it directly to your cottage

• 24-Hour Duty Manager:  We are available 24 hours to assist you.

• Smoke Free Hacienda:  No smoking anywhere in the hacienda.

• Lap Pool:  As from late 2020, a 25-meter lap pool will be available to guests.

• River Deck and Natural Pool:  Spend your down time reading a favorite book on our beautiful wooden deck or take a swim in the river.

• Reading Room & Library:  A quiet room in which to catch up on leisurely reading, borrow a book from our well-appointed library or perhaps write in your journal.

• Helipad:  Fly in and out of Hacienda La Danesa to anywhere in mainland Ecuador.

• Bikes:  Explore the property and self-guided trails on bike.

• Trails:  Whether a walk, run, bike ride or horse ride is your desire, there is a trail for you, self-guided or accompanied.

• Equestrian Center: Hacienda La Danesa is home to more than 50 beautiful Pinto Quarter horses that revel in the wide-open picturesque terrain, ideal for horseback riders
