ABOUT LA MIRAGE GARDEN HOTEL AND SPA - in their own words:
La Mirage Garden Hotel and Spa - the only Five Star Hotel in the Province of Imbabura - welcomes you to step into a magic atmosphere and enjoy traditional Ecuadorian Hospitality.

Perched on an Andean hillside a 2 hours drive north of Quito, LA MIRAGE is a contemporary resort built on the grounds of a 200 year old Hacienda in the year 1985. Fragrant hummingbird-filled gardens, 23 large exquisitely furnished rooms and suites, impeccable service, and gourmet food compromise the package that is the LA MIRAGE experience.

Located near the leather center of Cotacachi and only a short drive from Otavalo, famous for its large, colorful and bustling Saturday Indian Market (smaller markets take place on Wednesday through Friday), La Mirage is a feast for the senses.

Its 23 rooms and suites are each one of a kind. Due to a bit of architectural wizardry, and lavish landscaping, each of the units seems like a separate, detached cottage.  Some are, in fact, single units. Others are in duplex and triplex configurations. Furnishings are an eclectic blend of local and European pieces, all distinctive, yet cozy. There are fireplaces in all of the rooms.  Staff, in native Otavalo garb, come by after dark to light a welcome fire and warm the chilly Andean evening.

Guest facilities include a tennis court, a solar heated swimming pool, a Spa Center complete with steam bath, Jacuzzi and aroma therapy massages.

There is a cozy bar with roaring fireplace and a dining room with fine vistas of the Andean hillsides and beyond, the giant snow-topped volcanic peaks of the Andes.  Cuisine is imaginative gourmet Ecuadorian and country cuisine. Waitresses wear the traditional blue skirts and gold bead necklaces. Breakfast is served in the all glass Hummingbird Pavilion.

There is an unusual gift shop with exquisite handmade products, quite different from other shops in the area. Extensive grounds invite long strolls and serious flower sniffing. Bird feeders, places around the gardens give guests the opportunity to watch for about six different species of hummingbirds. Horse back riding is available as well as mountain bikes.
