ALTITUDE: The trip begins in San Pedro de Atacama located at an altitude of 2,500 meters above sea level. Excursions during in this area take visitors to altitudes of between 4,000 and 6,000 meters, which permits visitors to acclimatize themselves for the trip to the Bolivian Altiplano, whose altitude varies between 3,600 and 4,700 meters above sea level. The journey ends at sea level, at the Pacific Ocean

CLIMATE: The climate at San Pedro is good throughout the year, with more than 90% sunny days. Day temperatures on average are 8º C to 23º C during winter, and 12º C (54º F) to 25º C during summer.
Between January and March, the “Altiplanic Winter” phenomenon partially reaches San Pedro, with occasional rain, with higher precipitation in the Uyuni area, damaging roads and blocking passage. For this reason the Uyuni journey is available from April to December only.
Uyuni features a similar arid climate to San Pedro de Atacama, however due to its higher altitude it is colder. Day temperatures vary between 2 ºC and 15 ºC in winter (May-August), and -20 ºC in the evening, between 5 ºC and 20 ºC from September to December.
