PERUVIAN RAINFOREST Reserva
Amazonica |
To arrive at RESERVA AMAZÓNICA is to arrive to another world. It sits smack on the river bank amid a 40-square-mile private ecological reserve owned by INKATERRA. Located in the heart of the Amazon Rain Forest, adjacent to the Tambopata national park, the lodge was opened in 1975 and since then performs innovative sustainable use of the Amazon Rainforest: scientific based tourism since 1978.About Reserva Amazonica - in their own words:
The wildlife is remarkable, from giant and colorful macaws, to toucans, parrots, tapirs, tamarin monkeys, owls, the gorgeous Southern Amazon Red Squirrels, as well as a large variety of monkeys. RESERVA AMAZÓNICA has the world record of ant species in a single place (362 species), according to Professor E. O. Wilson (Harvard University).
RESERVA AMAZÓNICA provides the best tourism infrastructure available in the entire region, and is a prime location for exploring the rainforest. The lodge boasts 29 private cabanas and 5 suites built with local materials in native style. Service areas are located in a two-story wooden pavilion with a cathedral ceiling housing the dining room, bar, the main lounge and a mezzanine overlooking the rainforest, where visitors can relax while contemplating the unique scenery.
Amazon Pavilion:
The heart of the lodge is the central pavilion, a circular, two-story lounge and dining
room. Both practical and beautiful, the Amazon Pavilion features rustic furniture built
from local wood by native craftspeople. The upstairs loggias, with large balconies
overlooking the Madre de Dios River and the surrounding forest, are ideal for afternoon
tea or a pre-dinner Pisco Sour cocktail. Hammocks and large sofas, next to large windows
with fiber glass screening, complete the relaxing atmosphere.
The Amazon Pavilion serves as the lodge's Dining Room. Delicious meals -reflecting Amazonian cuisine - are served in the pavilion by the lodge's friendly staff. Included in the lodging options, the meal plan consits opf typical dishes, such as juane (chicken with steamed rice cooked in banana leaves), ají de castaña (Brazilian nut purée) or paca (fish or chicken cooked inside fresh bamboo stalks set in a circle around a bonfire), as well as pitchers of refreshing drinks made with boiled water and flavored with naturally exotic local fresh fruits. Bottled water and a large variety of cold bottled drinks are available at the bar for an additional charge. The main pavilion is the only hall in the lodge with electric lighting.
Accommodations The lodge boasts 34 private, rustic wooden cabañas built in the Amazons traditional Ese- Eja and Machigüenga styles. All the cabañas feature a private terrace with two hammocks, a writing table, mosquito nets (around the room and on each bed) and a private bathroom with filtered water and a full set of amenities.
