TOURS & EXCURSIONS AVAILABLE IN AND AROUND ASUNCION:
CITY TOUR - Duration 3 hours
Departure from your hotel for a complete tour of the City of ASUNCIÓN, a city with a
picturesque combination of modern and colonial architecture, including downtown and
residential areas such as The House of Independence, the Cathedral of Asunción, the
Government Palace, the Railway Station (visiting the oldest steam locomotive in South
America), the National Heroes' Mausoleum, where the remains of the greatest heroes of our
history are resting, the Avenida Mariscal López, also known as Avenue of the Embassies,
ending at the popular handicrafts market of La Recova.
Asunción Cultural - Duration 4
hours
Departure from your hotel to visit the archeological and ethnographic collections of the
Dr. Andrés Barbero Museum, that shows the significant influence of the native Indian
culture, followed by a visit to Casa Viola, one of the first buildings of the colonial
period in Asunción, today a museum of modern art with works by local artists. We will
continue to the Museum of the Cathedral, where we are going to enjoy the popular sacred
art of this country, and end at the Museum of Natural Sciences and Botanic Garden of
Asunción, where species of fauna and flora of the region are found.
A day in the country - Duration 5
hours
Transfer to a ranch near Asunción, where you may enjoy lunch with Paraguayan food
accompanied with traditional Paraguayan folkloric music, a chance to ride around the ranch
on horseback, and a show of criollo skills with lasso, rodeo, lasso and cattle branding,
traditional country chores.
Lake Ypacarai & Handcrafts -
Duration 5 hours
This tour includes a visit to the artisanal town of Luque, with its rustic factories for
handmade harps and guitars, and jewelry in gold and silver made in a filigree carving. A
visit to the charming sight of the blue lake Ypacarai, a visit to the artisanal City of
Aregua, old summer town that maintains its early 20th Century flavor. Pottery shops and
artisanal centers exhibit their craft throughout the year. Later we are going to visit the
City of Caacupe, Patroness of all Paraguayans, the Virgin of Caacupe and continue to San
Bernardino, located on the shores of Lake Ypacarai, a current summer resort. Next, we are
going to move on to Itauguá, home of the famous Ñanduti (spider web, in Guarani
language), handmade lace whose design is based on the webs of spiders. Visitors may buy
handicrafts such as tablecloths, tablemats, hammocks, bedcovers, etc. Return to Asunción.
Paraguay River - Duration 5 hours
Transfer to the port to navigate through the Paraguay River towards the Bay of Asunción,
where we'll have the chance to look at the city from the river, enchanting landscapes that
combine the picturesque city with the green of persisting nature. After this tour, we
return to the hotel.
The Golden Tour - Duration 7 hours
The combination of handicrafts, culture, history, and nature, will make this trip an
unforgettable and pleasant experience.
During our trip, we will be visiting the artisan city of Itá, traditionally known for
making the "Gallinita de la Suerte"; a small chicken made of clay, used as a
lucky charm. Then a visit to the Church of Yaguaron, a Franciscan temple from the 18th
Century. Then we continue to the mountain ranges of Paraguari. Visit to the historic city
of Piribebuy; then move on to the Church of Caacupe, home to the Patroness of all
Paraguayans, the Virgin of Caacupe. Later we arrive to San Bernardino, the country's main
summer resort, located right by the famous lake Ypacarai. Lunch included. In the
afternoon, we head back to Asunción, visiting the City of Itauguá, famous for its fabric
handicraft, where the imitation of the spider web (ñanduti) stands out. Return to
Asunción.
Ybicui National Park - Duration 8
hours
07:00 a.m. Departure from your hotel to Ybycui National Park. We will be arriving at the
ruins of the old iron foundry known as La Rosada; we'll get to learn about its history by
visiting the instructive museum with very interesting items. Next, we are going to walk
around the national park that covers an area of 5,000 hectares, where they keep most
valuable plant species, gigantic ferns, wild orchids, and where samples of animals already
extinct in other places live together (although they are sometimes not visible for
visitors). The park is crossed by several creeks of the purest and freshest waters that
make up the famous waterfalls Minas, Guarani and Escondido, which are very easy to access.
At noon, we leave for the City of Paraguari, where we'll to enjoy a delicious lunch.
Moving on. On our way, we are going to visit the Franciscan Church of Yaguaron, which
dates back to the 17th Century.
Jesuit Ruins in Trinidad -
Duration 18 hours
06:30 a.m. Drive towards Encarnaion with a visit the Franciscan Church of Yaguaron, which
dates back to the 18th Century, and after that, the Sacred Art Jesuit-Guarani Museum of
San Ignacio Guazu, until we reach Encarnación. At Encarnacion enjoy lunch and then visit
the Jesuit Reductions of Trinidad, which date back to 1706. At the end of this visit,
return drive back to Asuncion.
Asunción by night - Duration 3
hours
Departure from your hotel; a visit around town to watch the city lights and then, to a
restaurant for an exquisite dinner of local cuisine, accompanied by the sound or harps and
guitars. After dinner, we visit the casino, with admission free. Beverages are not
included.
