ABOUT SULCA TEXTILES MUSEUM – In their own words

Museo Sulca Textiles is situated in Cusco, Peru. The museum recreates fabrics and pieces from ancient Peru using ancestral techniques from the different Pre-Columbian Inca, Viceroyalty and Contemporary cultures. This is a place where the traditions of the North, South and Center of Peru come together.

The Sulca family who are current heirs to the knowledge of pre-Columbian textile art, a legacy of the great Wari cultural empire, currently oversee, re-value,  preserve,  elaborate,  innovate and disseminate the fabric made with the specialized knowledge and textile techniques that influenced ancient Peru; this is their family legacy!

Visitors can also shop for the museum's unique collection of pieces. Moreover, here you  will be able to watch different kinds of South American camelids, like the Llama, Alpaca and Vicuña.

CHALLENGES AND RITUALS ACCOMPANIED BY LLAMAS

 Our experience begins around the archaeological park of the Temple of the Moon, where we begin our walk, along the Qapac ñan or Inca trail, observing the nature of the flora and fauna and some sacred places "waqas" accompanied by a specialized guide and Andean musicians. – quechua.

We will visit the breeding area of our South American camelids, an area that is specially designed for their habitat. We will exchange spiritual energies and emotional affections between children and animals "uywaña" Aymara word that refers to the care, upbringing, love and affection of human beings towards non-human beings

 

IN SEARCH OF QUIPUCAMAYOQ

Together with master Walter Sulca, who maintains specialized knowledge of the secrets of Andean weaving, we will begin a workshop that aims to make our own "Quipu".

We will learn about the symbology, importance and history of this very important instrument for the Incas, but above all they will take home a unique experience and knowledge full of history and culture

SPECIAL EXPERIENCES 

SULCA SCHOOL, HANDS THAT TALK FABRIC MANUFACTURING

There were different styles of weaving in pre-Columbian Peru, some maintain this knowledge of textile art for generations and use their art during their daily lives. Together with the teacher Walter Sulca León, we will learn the techniques of weaving, development and symbology of each one of these, as well as its implication in pre-columbian Andean cultures.

CEREMONIAL PLACE “USHNU”

In the Inka capital Cusco and principal outlying towns of the Inka Empire, the ushnu was a place destined to carry out astronomical observations and worship the apus in a specially-constructed platform placed facing a designated sacred central space . It was an architectural center of the Cuzco square together with the Temple of the Sun where it influenced the outline of the general plan of the city. This sacred space was marked by a vertical opening into the body of the earth into which liquid and other offerings were made

The ushnu platform was therefore a kind of stage from which the Inka king and his lords could observe and rule over an annual round of seasonal festivals and ceremonial events.

SPECIALIZED TOUR FOR THE COLLECTION OF PRECOLUMBIAN TEXTILE

We are introduced to a chronological journey through the time of our ancient Peru, highlighting and emphasizing the beauty of art, history of pre-Columbian fabrics. More than 100 replicas that for more than 20 years the Sulca family recreates and replicates these fabrics from generation to generation for the entire world.

Due to the high complexity and detail in the recreation of ancient textile pieces, the production time ranges from 3 to 9 months of work.

THE PATH OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE ANDEAN MARRIAGE

Andean marriage is a ceremony presided over by an Andean Priest who performs a series of rites to unite the couple in an unbreakable spiritual bond, having as faithful witnesses the main Inca deities, such as: the sun and the moon, which symbolize the duality between man and woman; to the Pacha mama or mother earth, the Apus and spirits of the mountains, to the fire, the stars and to the water.
