ABOUT POUSADA SOLAR DA PONTE - In their own words:
Beside the stone bridge that leads to the shade of the trees in the village square of Tiradentes stands a house of thick walls and many windows called Solar da Ponte - the House by the Bridge. The Solar was purchased, still unfinished, in the early 1970's by its present owners, John and Anna Maria Parsons, with the sole object of offering hospitality in the time honored tradition of the best houses of Minas Gerais.
The judicious use of local building methods, arts and crafts, has created a Pousada or country inn that reflects the charm of the old colonial mining town of Sao Jose de Rio das Mortes, now called Tiradentes.
Its eighteen comfortable apartments and spacious grounds and living rooms offer a high standard of accommodation in a setting of unusual beauty. The pool, trees and lawns of the Solar invite enjoyment according to the season be it the cool sunny winters, semitropical summers, dry spring full of flowers and the warm autumn with its light rains. The interior furnishing and works of art form a permanent exhibition of craftsmen and artists in the rich cultural tradition of the Minas Gerais.
Home made corn bread and other local delicacies, fresh farm choose and milk, coffee home-roasted and ground, give a local flavor to breakfast. The Solar offers afternoon tea, sandwiches and drinks by the pool and an unusual selection of fine wines at the bar. The twelve comfortable apartments offer a high standard of accommodations in a setting of beauty. Flowers in the rooms, sounds of birds, all year round distinguish the Solar from commercial urban hotels.
