La Cabana IN THEIR OWN WORDS:
The steakhouse is located in La Recoleta, the
citys most fashionable residential and shopping area and in close proximity to many
of its finest hotels. |
History - In
their own words: Opened in early October 2003, La Cabaņa is a faithful recreation of the famous Buenos Aires steakhouse which closed in June 1996. From the early 1930s, La Cabaņa welcomed VIPs, celebrities, the famous and infamous from all over the world, serving what many considered to be the best steak on earth. Offering specially prepared Argentinean cuisine, the restaurants rustic atmosphere was as celebrated as its menu and its diners. When the restaurant closed, Orient-Express Hotels decided to buy both its name and contents, including a treasured file of historic photos and artefacts. With a fabled past that includes tales of romance and intrigue, and famous names from Louis Armstrong to Fidel Castro, La Cabaņa deserves a place in modern history. Its golden visitors book contains signatures of every Argentine president since Juan B Justo (circa 1935). Charles de Gaulle, Henry Kissinger, the Aga Khan, Richard Nixon, King Juan Carlos, Maurice Chevalier, Joan Crawford, Arturo Toscanini, Walt Disney, Vittorio de Sica and countless others were attracted to La Cabaņas ambiance, privacy and most famous dish, the Grand Baby Beef a 4-inch wide, 3.3-pound steak like no other in the world. |
|
Argentina has the highest per capita meat
consumption in the world. Many gauchos have eaten beef for breakfast, lunch and dinner
since they were children. You can envy them, because when you get a good steak in
Argentina, it is the best on earth. Open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails, only the finest cuts of beef are served at La Cabaņa. Bife con Lomo (T-bone steak), Bife de Chorizo (Baby Beef - a steak cut off the rib and similar to sirloin or Porterhouse), Bife de Costilla (Prime Rib steak) and Asado de tira (thin strip ribs), are grilled to perfection on a searing spit. Of course, no grill in Argentina is complete without a bottle of the countrys magnificent wine. A comfortable balance of traditional classics from the old La Cabaņa menu will be complemented with sophisticated international fare such as lamb fillets, grilled fish, roasted duck and pasta dishes. Diners wishing to smoke may do so only in the first floor bar area and at certain tables in an alcove of the main ground floor dining area, the walls of which are lined with wine bottles.
