LAKE CROSSING FROM PUERTO MONTT TO BARILOCHE :
This crossing of the Chilean and Argentine lake districts is one of the most beautiful journeys you can taken when in the southern cone, a sight not to be missed. By means of a combination of motorlaunches and motorcoaches, crossing three lakes and bordering a fourth, the trip takes two days in winter and can be done in one during the summer.
Day 1: Departure by bus to Petrohue, passing through the city of Puerto Varas, also known as the "city of roses", located in front of Lake Llanquihue, Chile's largest lake, with volcanoes Osorno and Calbuco reflected in its clear waters. Proceed skirting the lake towards Ensenada and Petrohue River with its falls and rapids. At Petrohue board a launch and cross the spectacular Lake Todos Los Santos, also known as Lake Emerald due to its vivid blue-green coloured waters. The pleasant atmosphere and its natural beauty will impress you. After a two hour journey, arrival in Peulla for overnight stop at the Swiss-styled Hotel Peulla.
Day 2: Today you begin with a bus crossing over the Perez Rosales pass to reach Puerto Frias for Argentine immigration and custom formalities. Then board a launch to cross Lake Frias up to Puerto Alegre for a short bus ride to Puerto Blest where you once again board a launch and cross the beautiful Lake Nahuel Huapi, and Puerto Panuelo where you board your bus for short 20 minute ride into Bariloche.
