LAKE CROSSING FROM BARILOCHE TO PUERTO MONTT :
This crossing of the Argentine and Chilean lake districts is one of the most beautiful journeys you can take when in the southern cone, a sight not to be missed. By means of a combination of launches and buses, crossing three lakes and bordering a fourth, the trip takes two days in winter and can be done in one day in the summer.
Day 1: The first launch is boarded at Puerto Pañuelo on the Llao-Llao peninsula for the crossing of the Blest Arm of Lake Nahuel Huapi. After lunch (not included) at Puerto Blest a bus will take you in 10 minutes to Puerto Alegre to board the second launch for the crossing of Lake Frias; after completing customs formalities another bus takes you into Chile via the Perez Rosales pass at 978 m reaching Peulla after 30 minutes. Overnight and dinner and Hotel Peulla.
Day 2: Board a launch to cross the third lake, Todos los Santos, in two and a half hours to Petrohue. The final leg of the journey is by bus along Petrohue river and falls, with a stop to view them, then past Ensenada and along the shore of Lake Llanquihue as far as Puerto Varas. Arrival in Puerto Montt in mid to late afternoon, depending on the season.
